How To Take A “Hair Selfie”

Hair selfies are fun to take for your own Social Media pages, but they are MY best advertisement!

Why are your hair selfies better than the photos I take of your hair while at the salon? Because they are a real life example of the cut or color that you like that I’ve done for you!

Let me break down how to take a nice hair photo. You can practice on a random day that you do your hair during this Covid-19 quarantine!

5 Tips For A Great “Hair Selfie”

  1. A Clean Background – A white background is best, but black or gray are great too. What’s even better than a white background? Go outside! Natural sunlight is the bomb and will enhance your hair.
  1. Phone Camera – You don’t have someone to take your photo? No problem. Just put your phone on a flat surface, set the timer and take your place in front of the camera!
  1. Angles – Don’t want your face to show in a photo? That’s not a problem. Turn your back to the camera, place your hands under your hair and fluff out. You can either crop your arms out of the photo or leave them in, but your hair will look great both ways!
  1. Posture – No matter where or how you’re taking this photo, if you don’t have good posture, it will look awkward! Shoulders back and chin up ladies!

*Side note: When you are getting your haircut, you should ALWAYS have good posture. It’s the same reason I have you uncross your legs! Great posture makes for a more PERFECT and BALANCED haircut!

  1. Style – Your hair photo will almost always look better if your hair is curled. This is pretty much only because if you’ve styled your straight medium length hair, and it sits on your shoulders funny, your ends will look messy. Straight hair will look better if you take the photo from behind!

It makes me so proud to be your hairstylist when the tips I give you are actually utilized! It means I’m doing my job right!
